Is Evangelical Christianity so fragile that evolution undermines faith in Jesus?

I don't understand the conflict some Evangelicals have with science. I am a Christian. I believe in Evolution. I also believe in God. I don’t feel pressured to choose one or the other. Science is not the enemy of God! We should have learned from the fiasco with Galileo. The Catholic Church still suffers, after 400 years! Pope after Pope has had to apologize for that ill advised decision; embarring!
